Elementary Special Education Coordinator
POSITION PURPOSE: The Special Education Coordinator provides leadership and program coordination to assure quality learning experiences for students with disabilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:
- Meet regularly with special education staff
- Be a resource to general education staff
- Monitor compliance of Article 7
- Monitor components and implementation of a student’s IEP
- Inservice parents and school personnel
- Attend case conferences when requested
- Serve as public agency representative when appropriate
- Attend strategies/team meetings
- Coordinate outside evaluations
- Chair manifestation case conferences
- Attend corporation administrative meetings
- Monitor student needs when transferring to another building
- Observe students when appropriate
- Collaborate with other ECSEC and corporation administrators
- Work collaboratively with administration to supervise and evaluate special education staff
- Monitor program and personnel needs
- Promote quality programming and services for students with special needs
- Assist in the hiring process of special education staff
- Serve as private school liaison
- Coordinate homebound services
- Monitor IEP due dates
- Analyze state assessment data to inform programming
- Assist administrators in preparation of budget, development of program policy and goals
- Provides technical assistance in areas such as assessment, curriculum development, use of materials and equipment and management of student behavior
- Attend ECSEC administrative meetings
- Supervise ESY
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Indiana Administrative license, Director of Special Education license preferred
- Successful teaching and administrative experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate certifications as required by the Indiana Department of Education, administrative license
- Ability to prepare written correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively with groups of students, parents, and school staff
- Skilled in human relations
- Ability to plan and organize good work habits
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations requiring decision making
- Knowledge of current research on the best practices in educating students with disabilities
HOURS: Extended School Year-209 days per year; 40 hours per week
SALARY: Salaried position; Amount is based on education and/or experince
