Long Term Substitute Teacher - School Counselor

 

POSITION PURPOSE:  Using leadership, advocacy and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventative services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career and social-emotional development for all students.

                                                    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily, according to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Professional Standards and Competencies.

  • Program Foundation: The School Counseling Program is in alignment with the vision and mission and is delivered from a foundation of beliefs based on state and national standards that serve as the guiding principles for design and management of the school counseling program
  • Data-based Accountability: Annually revise (as needed) the school counseling program as a result of an analysis of evaluation data in the following areas:
    • Annually revise the school counseling program as a result of analysis of evaluation data.
    • Identify data-informed goals along with the measured impact of direct services delivery.
    • Deliver data-informed classroom, small-group and closing the gap activities and interventions.
    • Design calendars reflecting appropriate use of time aligned with ASCA National Model recommendations of 80% of time in direct and indirect services to students.
    • Collect and analyze results data from classroom, small group and closing the gap activities and interventions.
    • Measure student growth of outcome data areas, including academic, achievement/grades, attendance, and behavior/discipline.
  • Classroom Counseling Curriculum: Design, deliver, evaluate, and revise a curriculum meeting the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success and Indiana School Counseling Competencies for Students, including classroom, small group, and individual lessons covering:
    • Academic development (e.g. academic planning; postsecondary awareness and readiness)
    • Career development (e.g. career awareness and readiness)
    • Social-Emotional Development (e.g. personal and social skills needed to be successful in a global society)
  • Student Counseling
    • Identify counseling needs related to personal and social development.
    • Provide student assistance services, including individual and group counseling, crisis counseling and referrals, for students with personal or social concerns that interfere with learning.
    • Provide consultation to administrators, teachers, parents, and community agencies.
    • Coordinate students’ assistance activities delivered by school counselors or other including teachers, peer and community mental health agencies.
  • Student Advocacy
  • Participate in and/or facilitate school improvement initiatives
  • Promote high achievement and advocate for a supportive learning environment for all students
  • Promote an understanding of various ethnics or cultural groups
  • Provide assistance for teachers who are striving to help all students learn.
  • Identify students who may not be achieving to the potential due to learning environment and provide necessary interventions.
  • Collaborate with school and community partners to provide input and insight regarding the academic, personal/social and behavioral progress of students.
  • Program Management/advocacy:
  • Promote school counseling program services to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.
  • Seek resources (time, funding, and personnel) to support the school counseling program.
  • Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and adhere to local, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to school counseling (e.g. privileged communication).
  • Adhere to the American School Counselor Association Ethical standards.
  • Be knowledgeable of American School Counselor Association Mindsets and Behaviors.
  • Be knowledgeable of the Indiana School Counseling Competencies for Students.
  • Promote the mastery of the Indiana Student standards for School Counseling.
  • Demonstrates continuous personal growth and professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with the Annual Administrative Conference and program handbook.

 

REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Valid Indiana Substitute Permit or Teacher’s License in the appropriate subject area and/or grade level(s)
  • Valid Indiana School Services License is preferred

DATES/HOURS:  Approximate dates: October 7-December 22, 2020; Hours: 7:45am - 3:45pm.  For more information regarding this assignment contact information is listed below

 

SALARY: 

  • Substitute Permit:
    • High School Diploma or less than 30 credit hours: $85/day and after 15 consecutive days will bump up to $140.00 per day.
    • 30+ credit hours: $90/day and after 15 consecutive days will bump up to $140.00 per day.
  • Teaching License:
    • $90/day and after 15 consecutive days will bump to $195.00 per day.
  • Retired Teacher:
    • $115/day and after 15 consecutive days will bump to $195.00 per day.

 

BENEFITS:  This position is not eligible for benefits.
