Goshen High School
Media Teacher
POSITION PURPOSE: Oversee the operations and management of the school media center including maintaining and updating the school’s collection. The Media Center Specialist should prepare to host classes in the library and conduct mini lessons pertaining to the use of media and using the resources available.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed duties are illustrative only and are not intended to describe each function which may be performed in the job class. The omission of specific statements does not preclude management form assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
- Works with Master Teachers/Administration to align instruction and curriculum.
- Works with grade level teams to develop units of study around the state standards for each grade level and content area.
- Oversees the ordering and organization of the resources in the media center.
- Manages and develops the collection.
- Creates and encourages a culture of reading.
- Collaborates with the school community to support lessons in both the school library and classrooms.
- Collects, organizes, and promotes resources (both print and digital) to the school community.
- Supports students as they meet independent reading and academic goals.
- Promotes and builds awareness of information literacy standards (effectively accessing and using appropriate resources) and digital citizenship.
- Plans for classes to be in the media center every week in conjunction with the instructional collaborator.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Indiana Teacher’s License in the appropriate subject area and/or grade level(s) or Media Specialist Degree
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to follow directions and established procedures.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible to formats within the educational procedure of community-based instruction and inclusive teaching models.
- Ability to perform job duties without supervision.
- Ability to establish rapport with staff and children; ability to maintain discipline; possess tact; courtesy; and good judgment.
- If prior classroom teaching experience, Successful classroom instruction that shows student growth.
- If prior classroom teaching experience, Successful classroom management
WORK CALENDAR: School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week
SALARY: Teaching Contract – 184 days
