Instructional Support Teacher
POSITION PURPOSE: Instructional Support teachers are actively involved in enhancing/supporting the teaching experience of career teachers. Their primary role is, with the principal and Instructional Coaches, to analyze student data and create and institute an academic achievement plan for the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Through the leadership team, they participate in analyzing student data and creating the academic achievement plan. With oversight and support from the Instructional Coaches, they lead cluster meetings and provide classroom-based follow-up and extensive feedback on the instructional practices of career teachers. Instructional Support teachers serve as an advocate for departmental needs while supporting the school goals and mission.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Be an integral part of the building leadership team which meets outside of the normal school day
- Through analysis of student data, assist in creating the school academic achievement plan
- With oversight of the Instructional Coach, plan and facilitate cluster group meetings and provide appropriate follow-up
- Team with colleagues, demonstrate model lessons, and develop and help implement curriculum
- Observe and provide peer assistance and coaching toward meeting teachers’ Individual Growth Plan goals
- Coach and support teachers using the NIET Rubrics
- Work an expanded calendar year – up to approximately 5 days per year.
- Schedule and lead monthly department meetings.
- Act as a spokesperson/liaison between administration and department members
- Collaborate with the bookkeeper to oversee department budget and order necessary items.
- Participate in curriculum development, mapping, and alignment to state standards
- Assist new department members with curriculum and access to resources
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Indiana Teaching License
- Bachelor’s degree and full credentials
- NIET trained preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficient teaching scores on NIET rubric; minimum SKR score of 3.5.
- For teachers currently in NIET schools, recommended by principal, master and mentor teacher.
- Classroom demonstrations showing instructional excellence.
- Knowledge of current research and practices specifically around the concepts of Building Background
- Knowledge, the role of specific feedback in student growth and knowledge of effective teaching practices
- Excellent instructor and communicator with an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults
- Professional portfolio including student work and data indicating academic growth
- Demonstrated leadership in student learning, mentoring and professional development.
- Minimum five years of successful teaching experience. Student data that illustrates the teacher’s ability to increases student achievement through utilizing special instructional interventions
SALARY: Stipend determined by Master Contract
