College Prep Coach
POSITION PURPOSE: The Goshen High School College Prep Coach will serve as an adviser, mentor and role model for potential first-generation college students and help them prepare for college. Under the supervision of Goshen High School counseling staff, the College Prep Coach will conduct workshops for students and parents and meet one-on-one with students and parents while working with other school staff to improve retention and graduation rates and enhance the college-going culture of Goshen Community Schools. Additionally, this position is part of the guidance department and will assist with all student service duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Help identify, connect with, coach and mentor a cohort of potential first-generation college students, with an emphasis on juniors and seniors
- Help these students receive the support needed to enhance their learning, persistence, and academic success
- Guide, challenge, and support students in becoming self-reliant, using campus and Goshen College resources, and making self-reflective decisions about academic and career goals
- Make referrals to campus colleagues and follow up as requested with students on issues affecting academic success
- Organize and conduct workshops for students and parents on the college enrollment process, including taking the SAT or ACT, visiting and applying to colleges, filing a FAFSA, applying for scholarships and financial aid and deciding which college to attend
- Help identify opportunities for students to develop their leadership, organizational and time management skills
- Meet with counselors and faculty to address the educational challenges and needs of a diverse student population
- Record student contacts and progress and activities for the year-end report
- Assist guidance department with regular duties as needed including greeting parents, students, and patrons filing, answering phones and all other tasks as assigned by the director of guidance or the principal.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Bilingual in Spanish & English
QUALITIES DESIRED:
- Knowledge, skills, and interest related to working with students to promote academic success
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proven ability to work in a collegial, collaborative, and diverse environment
- Willingness to work days, nights and weekends as required to connect with students and parents
HOURS: School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week; 7:30am to 4:00pm
SALARY: $19.70-$20.45, rate is dependent upon education and/or experience. (Schedule #22-3)
