Grounds/General Maintenance
POSITION PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Head Groundskeeper, the groundskeeper is responsible for the upkeep of all grounds (defined as the areas outside of the school building) for Goshen Community Schools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
- Receives specific instructions from the Head Groundskeeper on that day’s activities.
- Assists in the planning of grounds keeping activities so that duties can be carried out in a logical, efficient manner.
- Gathers supplies and equipment so that all necessary materials are on hand when needed.
- Performs landscaping duties according to schedules determined by Head Groundskeeper including:
- Lawns-mowing, fertilizing, weeding and pest control
- Trees, Flowers and Shrubs-pruning, fertilizing, edging and general upkeep
- General grounds maintenance
- Athletic fields-general maintenance including striping
- Irrigation systems-maintenance or sprinkler systems including programming
- Performs general maintenance on walkways, driveways, curbs, fences, and outbuildings.
- Operates grounds keeping equipment and snowplows safely and effectively.
- Maintains grounds keeping tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Informs Head Groundskeeper on results of assigned duties and any unsafe conditions encountered.
- Performs any other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated ability to understand and implement prescribed safety processes and procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good Work Habits.
- The ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
- The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- Knowledge of and experience with tools, lawn and snowplow equipment, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to problem solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations requiring decision making.
HOURS: Full year: 52 weeks per year; 20 hours per week; 7:00am to 11:00am
SALARY: $18.00-$18.60, rate is dependent upon education and/or experience. (Schedule #37-2)
